Korean Thanksgiving Vs. Christian Thanksgiving

For God's will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
Heb 10:10

Today is Saturday. In two days comes the Korean Thanksgiving. On two occasions Rebekah reminded me that Korean Thanksgiving is coming.

Tonight while seated in a swing chair in the backyard, looking at the moon coming up, she again reminded that in two days Korean Thanksgiving is due.

Then I reminded her that Korean Thanksgiving is pagan, so Christians ought to wash themselves of paganism, and adopt the Biblical way of thanksgiving.

Korean Thanksgiving is largely embedded in the Confucianism which says when you offer food/sacrifices to your ancestors, the gods will be pleased, so they will pour upon you blessings. For this reason on the Thanksgiving Day they spread food before dead spirits, dedicate the food and drink to the dead ancestors, bow down to them, and then they consume what they  had first offered to the dead spirits.

But the meaning of the Christian thanksgiving is seen in the Seven Festivals of the Israelite. On Jewish Calendar these seven feasts fall on specific dates of particular months. These feasts are designed for God's children to remember His grace, celebrate and give thanks to the Lord for His provisions for mankind, particularly the atonement for our sins. This year Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) falls on Oct 3/4, 2014, the day when the Lord God provided for us the Lamb His Son Jesus Christ as our atoning sacrifice, as is written in the Scripture:

For God's will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
Heb 10:10

The purpose of the provision has the truly blessed purpose, that is, for us to be made 'holy' once for all time. So for Christians who  believe in Jesus the Lord and Savior, every day is the day of thanksgiving, not for some quick material provisions from God but for all the provision especially the provision for the way of the holy life in the holy presence of the Living God!
