Father's Day- Sunday, June 17, 2018

Happy Father's Day

(Our Father in Heaven)

Matthew 6:9-13

"This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name..."

[10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, (a) but deliver us from the evil one.]

A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society. - Billy Graham

What Billy Graham said is particularly true of our Heavenly Father.

So we sing, praise, and notice the greatness of our Heavenly Father.

Now, the sermon comes in three parts:

Part I. His Name

The meaning of Hallowed by your name:

In Hebrew the word "hallowed" pronounced "kadosh" means, "set apart", "separated from", or "different from". In what respect is He different from all?

He is different from or set apart from all in that He alone is sufficient by himself, and in that sense is perfect in power and love, among other characteristics. In the first place He is the Creator who has caused all the entire universe and everything in it to come into being out of nothing. And he has the power to suspend revive and renew His creation.

Part II. Our Prayer

Yet we as created beings may not know His name, i.e., his holiness so Jesus taught us to pray for if we pray He enables us to know Him.

Part III. Our Life of Faith in Him

And we are to live by faith in Him, even as things go imperfect we would overcome the imperfect conditions and live well.

The invalid man becoming valid in John 5 represents a powerful example. Because he did not know God the Father, Jesus helped him to know the Father, by faith in Him get healed of his weakness and he became valid being able to take up his mat and walk.

** Further Words to memorize:

John 5:17. "The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him."

John 8:29 "My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all c; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and the Father are one." John 10:29-30
