On Dec. 6, Sunday morning, from 9 - 11, we had a group Bible study on Ezra 7.
At the time Ezra stood up, about 138 years passed since the destruction of the Jerusalem temple, and 58 years after the re-dedication of the Jerusalem temple. Physical building (temple) was there, but the problem was with people coming back from the Babylonian captivity. They were steeped into the "unbiblical world-view" so to speak. Ezra had a sense of problem. The returnees were third and fourth generation, after the exile, so they lost their identity as the members of the priests and holy nation. So Ezra resolved to resolve this problem. He took 1,256 co-workers consisting of priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants, to help him. (Ezra 7:7; 8:1-14)
In Africa self-supporting missionaries and shepherds find it challenging. But they can make themselves be familiar with the word of God through maintaing such practices as QT, writing sunday messages, teaching the Bible 1:1, etc.
