The purpose of judgment

In talking to Athenians the Apostle Paul said everyone ought to repent for God set a day to judge the world by the man he has appointed, that is, Jesus Christ. Acts 17:31

For what does he judge?

We find the answer to the question in what we do daily, such as grocery shopping, or gardening. My wife goes to the Winco for grocery shopping once a week. There she goes through a produce section where she carefully examines produce such as pumpkin, lettuce, or watermelon. In selecting watermelon, she knocks on the watermelon, hears the sound, and depending on the sound, she discards what seems not worthy, and puts in the cart only the ones she finds good.

The same is true with judgment: selection of that which is worthy.

The Scripture screams out for this purpose:

- He chose Last Adam over the first Adam.
- God chose Abraham over Abram, Isaac over Ishmael, Jacob over Esau, Israel over Jacob.
- He is in the process of shaking everything (and everyone) in order to keep that which cannot be shaken. Hebrew 12:27
- He already expressed his end purpose of ministry, that is, to sieve into the perfected world only those who are able to endure before him forever. Isaiah 66:22
- Kingdom of God is like a man who goes out to the sea, throw a net, draw it in, and put in a bucket only good fish, throwing away bad fish. Matthew 13:47-48
- The Father is like a Gardner who prunes vine, keeping branches that bear fruit, throwing away into fire branches which are not worthy. John 15:5
- Abraham saw this, and discarded that which is not enduring, for while living in tent he looked forward to the city with a foundation. Hebrew 11:16
- The Apostle Paul exhorted the Philippians to live a life worthy of Jesus, for he did not want his flock to be thrown out into the fire. Phi 1:27
- The Prophet Malachi saw the purpose of Jesus' coming, that is, as a man with a refiner's fire, or a launderer's soap. Malachi 3:2
- John the Baptist saw the purpose of the Savior coming, that is, harvesting with a winnowing fork, so grain ought to be gathered into a barn, chaff to be thrown into unquenchable fire. Matthew 3:12
- The Apostle Peter saw this down the road, and prayed for his children to 'grow up' in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. 2 Peter 3:18
- For this reason Jesus said that at the resurrection people will neither be given marriage nor be given in marriage, for they will be like angels in  heaven. Matthew 22:30

So who can be made worthy? John 15:5,16
