When bad things like you feeling heavy or God forbid you getting disgnosed of cancer the first thing you might ask would be "Why does this happen to me?" Then perhaps the next question that might hit you is "How can I come out of this?"
The citizens of Ekron could not find the answer. Yet during the tenure of their fiery ordeals the answer to the question was always with them.
What was and is the answer? It was and is inside of the BOX called the Ark of the covenant of the God of Israel. And the code reads: "Love the Lord your God (not any gods but the God who gave the humanity the Moses Ten Commandments) with your all (soul heart mind strength) and love your neighbor as you love yourself."
The Ark conveys symbolically the message of the means and the purpose for the life to the full. The means is seen in the atonement cover which was fulfilled on the cross where Jesus the Lamb of God offered himself as an atoning sacrifice.
The purpose is seen above the atonement cover where two cherubim were seated guarding the throne of the God of holiness.
And holiness spells out the full purpose of His will that is the condition (or environment if you will) in which all creations especially you yes even you can have full life in the presence of the eternal God.
God so loved you that he sent His one and only son Jesus so as you believe in him you shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.
If you repent and turn to God through Jesus the Son who has taken away the sin of the world you are given the right to be a child of God and participate in the blessings he has for you.
Otherwise you still remain condemned (or 'uprooted' - whch is the root manng of the word "Ekron") just like the citizens of Ekron.
Is this God living today?
Yes he is!
How do you know?
Well by looking at all the things that are happening now - the good bad and ugly.
Or by looking at all the lively changes in the sky. Yesterday it was sunny but today sort of gloomy just like the pic I took with my iPhone.
Now the meaning of Ekron in Hebrew:
• The verb (1681), meaning pluck or root up (Eccl 3:2, Zeph 2:4; notice Ekron as the subject of the verb uproot).
• The meaning of derivative (1681a) is unclear but probably means member or offshoot (used once in Leviticus 25:47).
• The verb (1682), meaning to hamstring (2 Samuel 8:4, 1 Chronicles 18:4), and derivative , meaning barren (Deuteronomy 7:14, Exodus 23:26).
The NOBS Study Bible Name List apparently goes with a general, underlying meaning of the root and reads Extermination. Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names sticks to the meaning of to uproot and interprets it: Uprooting, Emigration. www.abarim-publications.com
