Graves of Craving (Kibroth Hattaavah)

Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah because there they buried the people who had craved other food. Numbers 11:34

In reading Numbers 11 today's daily bread (dtd 9/18/16) I was reminded of why Jesus said what he said, that is,

- I am the Bread of Life
- I am real food/drink (whoever drinks of me will never go thirsty)
- Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God

The Israelites (some of them) who came out of Egypt and journeyed to the Promised Land had a second thought, so as they craved 'other' food (than 'manna') they ended up going down to the grave. So they were buried in a desert land, so they called the place "Kibroth Hattaavah".

The episode involving Kibroth Hattaavah took place about 14 centuries before Christ. An article the Record Searchlight carried on this morning's edition, entitled "drugmakers fight state opioid limits amid crisis" (see below a feature photo and note in pink) testifies that people in the 21st Century still repeat the same: they crave "other" food only to be buried in the Kibroth Httaavah.

(This undated photo provided by Jennifer Weiss-Burke on Sept. 12, 2016 shows her and her son, Cameron Weiss. Weiss-Burke said his descent into drug addiction started with an opioid prescription a doctor wrote for him for a wrestling injury. After his death from a heroin overdose in 2011, Weiss-Burke pushed for a bill limiting initial prescriptions of opioid painkillers for acute pain to seven days. The bill exempted people with chronic pain, but opponents still fought back, with lobbyists for the pharmaceutical industry quietly mobilizing in increased numbers to quash the measure. Not all drugs are bad: at the desktop where I am writing this blog has plastic bottles like: ABC Plus Multi, Sundown Naturals High Potency Vitamin C 1000 MG, Finest Joint Health Glucosamine MSM, Puritan Pride Senior Eye Vision 200 Rapid Release Capsules, Absorbable Calcium 1200mg Plus...

But the point remains the same: man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

The expression "every word" sounds overwhelming for there are 66 books of the Bible - 39 old, 27 new. But God made it handy by putting all of them into one bottle called "Jesus"(which I like to call "the Living Bread Multi Vitamine Package"). Still one of the best feature of this "food" (real drink, real food) is that it is all 'for free'. You do not need doctors' prescription. You do not need Medical or Medicare. All you need is your courage (or 'faith' if you will) to go for it.

[Song to sing for today - He Lives In My Heart] - video

Lyric: (In singing a song/hymn, it is important to sing thinking about the meaning of the song/lyric, as Martin Luther always warned his congregation that one should not be enticed by the melody alone but the mediating, being conscious of the message of hymnal.)

I serve a risen Saviour, He's in the world today
I know that He is living, whatever men may say
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He's always near
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart
In all the world around me I see His loving care
And though my heart grows weary I never will despair
I know that He is leading, through all the stormy blast
The day of His appearing will come at last
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He

No more abuse

23 “‘The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers.
(LEVITICUS 25)

In commanding the Israelites on the Year of Sabbath and the Year of Jubilee the Lord said at the end of the instruction "...because the land is mine."

The land does not belong to them but the Lord so they were to treat it with due respect.

On the day this daily bread was on I was building an outdoor shade (a patio with grape vine on it). So I thought "This place is not yours. You must build it with grace."

Then it occurred to me that I should treat humans (myself included) with due respect for it is not just land or animals but also men that belong to the Lord.

So they ought to treat the land with due respect such as by not selling it permanently or by giving it a break once in a while (sort of paid vacation).

If this is the case with the land (mere mass of dirt) with how much more respect and honor should I treat humans such as your life and my life?

An Aroma Pleasing to the Lord... Lev 1:9

The first five books of the Bible can be summed up with Five "R", that is:

Genesis: Recreation (recreating one new man who lives by faith in the Lord)
Exodus: Redemption (redeeming slaves out of the bondage to the Evil One)
Leviticus: Road (road [or rule, or regulation if you will, for sinners coming to God the Father)
Numbers: Re population (repopulating the land with those armed with faith in the Lord)
Deuteronomy: Review (of the lessons from Genesis to Numbers)

In today's daily bread passage, Leviticus describes the burnt offerings which refer to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, that is, the Way of (and to) God for life. The offerings represent an aroma pleasing to God. The word 'aroma' or 'pleasing' indicate the relationship, that is, Jesus the Son of God who came to die for our sins and rose for our justification, re-establishes the once broken relationship between God and man. Speaking of this work, Jesus said, "No one can come to the Father except through me."

In Redding there is a nice place to visit called "Turtle Bay" where there is a bridge with a modern look. At night the color of bridges neon signs change as in the color of rainbows. Under the bridge there runs the Sacramento River. With the bridge one can cross the River on foot!

And today's daily bread presents our Lord Jesus as the Way, the bridge as beautiful as the rainbow reaching heaven! Thank and praise be to God the Father who invites his children to come to Him through Jesus the Son!

Meaning of "Clothe yourself with Christ"

In today's daily bread (Exodus 39) is found the meaning of the call  to "clothe" oneself with Christ (Ro 13:14; Gal 3:27), that is living by faith in the LORD who saves his people from their sins and makes them right with God the Father so they can live as his royal princes and princesses.
The Ephod was to be made of thin sheets of pure gold and cut strands to be worked into blue (holiness) purple (royalty) and scarlet (color of our sin) yarn of fine linen (made righteous with the sinless blood of the Lord).

Upon sinning Adam and Eve realized that they were naked so they started to cover themselves. And they hid (from the Lord). They lost their identity as God's children.

But in Jesus the Redeemer God the Father restores the sinners back to Him granting them the standing of His children so they could live in Him without fear and serve Him with joy!

Bible Soon Cheon, World Campus Mission

On Feb 22, 2016 on the way back to Seoul we (I and Shepherd Timothy Ha) paid a visit to Shepherd Abraham Cho at the Soon Cheon UBF Center.
Abraham is a younger brother of
Missionary Stephen Cho of Bolivia. He started to pioneer Sooncheon National University 3 years ago.
Several students faithfully study the Bible and attend Sunday worship.
He majored in design but now as a pioneer he does a number things like (during worship service) presiding, leading worship services by playng guitar, making announcement, serving messages, singspiration, cleaning Bible center which he rented.

Bible Jeonjoo World Campus MissionMission

After attending the wedding between Sarah Brown and Joon Soon Kim, the next day (Sun)  Timothy Ha of Chongno and I moved to Chunjoo and attended worship service at Chunjoo (I) UBF Bible Center located across the street from the Jeon-Book University.

The worship started at 11:00 am. Shepherd Moses Park served a message, "Return to me" (Malachi 3:6).

In his message Moses exhorted the congregation to repent, turn to the Lord and serve Him with the sense of history and global mission vision in mind.

Shepherd Moses   became a believer from mother's womb. Yet during his young adulthood he fared without knowing the Lord "in PERSON". But one day when he tyrned 16, he stumbled into a prayer meeting where he met the Lord in person when he heard a message saying "...he was PIERCED for our transgression."
Around that time he suffered a lot due to the foot injury after he had accidently stepped on a nail.
The message pierced his heart. He met Jesus who made him whole through suffering and death on his behalf. While he was in collage at Jeonbook University he was led to UBF. At that time he was thirsty of the word. He had the desire to study the Bible deeply. The 'Bible study at UBF satisfoed his deep dedire to deeply study the Bible. Now he served the student ministry as a staff shpherd still working full time as an asset manager at a financial institution.

Bible Ethiopia

Missionary Samuel Yoo (MD) will go next week to Ethiopia as a "consultant" dispatched by KOICA (Korean International Cooperation Agency) on a two year contract. He and his wife Mary will be stationed at a university in Zima a city located about 5 hours away to the southwest from Addis Abbaba.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency was founded as a government agency on April 1, 1991, to maximize the effectiveness of Korea's grant aid programs for developing countries by implementing the government's grant aid and technical cooperation programs.

(About a year ago he moved to Swaziland to open a ministry but things did not work out.) Last October he learned of the Koica looking for candidates to go out to depressed areas to impliment government aid programs. He applied for the venture. Koica accepted. Now he finished the training in Seoul Korea.

Yesterday after finishing a meeting UBF International Executive Board members had a dinner together with Mary and Samuel Yoo and took a picture.
