Do me a special favor!

In today's daily bread passage, Joshua 15, Caleb's daughter asked Caleb for a special favor saying, "Do me a special favor!" (19)

It appears that Othniel, though was brave enough to volunteer to go fight against and capture the enemy territory Kiriath Sepher, and thereby earned the blessing to marry Aksah, seems shy (or meek), so supported the family resorting to menial labor, yet not being to afford to buy a piece of land. But, Aksah sort of pushed her hubby to go ask the father  in law for a field, which he did and thereby was granted the request.

But Aksah did not stop there. She asked her father to do a special favor that since Caleb was gracious enough to give her the land, now she be given springs  of water! After all what good would a piece of 'dry' land be, if it were without water?!

Apparently Caleb (liked the request; after all she was his daughter, not a regular daughter, but a beautiful one desired by 'all' men in town) granted the request: he gave her upper and lower springs!

This episode has a prophetic message, looking to the Savior coming to the Samaritan land, meeting a lady (known as the "Samaritan" woman), and granting her request, that is, the Spring of Living Water, stating, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give  him will never thirst; indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of living water willing up to eternal life!" John 4:1-14

And we must be bold enough to ask the Lord for His gift, that is, the Spring of the Living Water, as the Apostle Peter urged thirsty people to do saying, "“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38

** Hymn to sing: Spring of Living Water (Sing to the Lord #416)

- Lyrics:

I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.
Chorus
Drinking at the springs of living water,
Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
O wonderful and bountiful supply.
How sweet the living water from the hills of God,
It makes me glad and happy all the way;
Now glory, grace and blessing mark the path I've trod,
I'm shouting Hallelujah every day.

** Prayer for the relief from the brush fires razing throughout the west coast.
